Falmouth Photos Shot In And Around Water Square – Friday, May 18, 2012

It has been a while since we showcased our popular Falmouth photos of people going about their everyday businesses in Falmouth, Trelawny, Jamaica. The 18-55mm lens on the Canon just does not do well with street photography, so hence the big gap between the albums.

We were in the street yesterday and here3 is what we got:

Photos of The Newly Renovated Victoria Park on Rodney Street, Falmouth

Victoria Park

The historic Victoria Park on Rodney Street Falmouth was renovated, starting in 2008, by the Falmouth Heritage Renewal. The park sits at the entrance to Fort Balcarres, now Falmouth All Age (Barracks) School. The park was originally known by the nickname “Grass Piece” and the surrounding area is still known by that name. Victoria Park (named after Queen Victoria) was originally used as a parade ground for the English soldiers stationed at the Fort since the early 1800′s.

I remember as a kid, there was the faint memory of a garden close to Barracks School and strong memories of the band stand in the middle of  Victoria Park. The band stand however, gradually become rundown and became the local football scrimmage base for the young boys in the 1970′s. It gradually deteriorated to ruins until the new renovation.

On a recent photo shoot of the Falmouth Barracks School Sports Day, I took these photos of the renewed Victoria Park, looking beautiful once again and once more being able to provide a relaxing place on the quiet Rodney Street for locals and visitors. This should be a refreshing sight for those who have not seen it for a few years:
